Arrival in Kilimanjaro – Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our professional mountain team and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town, located at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. This day is reserved for relaxation and preparation before your climb begins. In the evening, you will meet your mountain guide for a detailed briefing about the 8 Days Lemosho Route, including safety procedures, altitude awareness, equipment check, and summit preparation. Overnight at the hotel in Moshi.
Lemosho Glades (2385m) to Big Tree Camp (2780m)
After breakfast, you will drive to Londorossi Gate for registration before continuing to the Lemosho trailhead where your trek officially begins. The first day of the 8 Days Lemosho Route takes you through beautiful rainforest filled with giant trees, colorful birds, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. The trail is peaceful and less crowded, allowing you to fully enjoy the natural beauty of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Big Tree Camp (2780m) to Shira 1 Camp (3500m)
Today the trail gradually leaves the rainforest and enters the moorland zone. The vegetation becomes more open and the first spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro begin to appear. As you continue climbing, you will enjoy beautiful scenery, volcanic rock formations, and fresh mountain air while your body slowly adjusts to the altitude.
Shira 1 Camp (3500m) to Shira 2 Camp (3900m)
This day focuses on acclimatization as you cross the stunning Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus in the world. The trail is relatively gentle, giving you time to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the mountain, unique alpine vegetation, and wide open landscapes. The gradual ascent helps improve acclimatization for the summit days ahead.
Shira 2 Camp (3900m) to Barranco Camp (3960m)
This is one of the most important acclimatization days on the 8 Days Lemosho Route. You will hike toward Lava Tower at higher altitude before descending to Barranco Camp following the “climb high, sleep low” principle. The landscape changes dramatically into alpine desert with impressive volcanic scenery and giant senecio plants surrounding Barranco Valley.
Barranco Camp (3960m) to Karanga Camp (3963m)
After breakfast, you begin the exciting climb up the famous Barranco Wall. Although steep in appearance, the climb is non-technical and offers incredible views over the mountain and surrounding valleys. After reaching the top, the trail continues through ridges and valleys before arriving at Karanga Camp where you can relax and prepare for the final ascent stages.
Karanga Camp (3963m) to Barafu Camp (4640m)
Today you continue your ascent toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt. The landscape becomes more rugged and alpine with cooler temperatures and dramatic mountain views. Upon arrival at camp, you will rest, hydrate, and receive a detailed summit briefing from your guide before an early dinner and preparation for summit night.
Barafu Camp (4640m) to Uhuru Peak (5895m) Down to Millennium Camp (3790m)
Around midnight, you begin your summit push under the stars toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The climb is challenging but extremely rewarding as you slowly ascend toward the summit in the early morning hours. Reaching Uhuru Peak is an unforgettable achievement with breathtaking sunrise views above the clouds. After celebrating at the summit, you descend back through Barafu Camp before continuing to Millennium Camp for overnight rest.
Trek Millennium Camp (3790m) to Mweka Gate (1630m)
After breakfast, you descend through the lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate where you will receive your summit certificate as recognition of your successful Kilimanjaro climb. Upon arrival, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi for a hot shower, relaxation, and celebration. We also welcome you to spare an hour of your day to plant a tree, as part of our environmental conservation efforts in the Kilimanjaro region. Safari and Zanzibar add-ons are also available if you wish to continue exploring Tanzania.
Depart Kilimanjaro
After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward journey home. For travelers wishing to continue exploring Tanzania, this day also offers the perfect opportunity to extend your adventure with a wildlife safari to destinations such as Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and Tarangire National Park.
