Overview

The Climb Experience

The 7 Days Lemosho Route is one of the most recommended routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro because of its beautiful scenery, excellent acclimatization profile, and high summit success rate. The route approaches Kilimanjaro from the remote western side and passes through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and glacier zones before reaching Uhuru Peak at 5,895m.

This route is ideal for climbers seeking a quieter and more scenic Kilimanjaro experience while increasing their chances of reaching the summit successfully. The extra acclimatization time makes the 7 Days Lemosho Route one of the best choices for both first-time climbers and experienced trekkers.

2780m6 km3–4 Hours

After breakfast, you will drive to Londorossi Gate for registration before continuing to the Lemosho trailhead where your trek officially begins. The first day of the 8 Days Lemosho Route takes you through beautiful rainforest filled with giant trees, colorful birds, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. The trail is peaceful and less crowded, allowing you to fully enjoy the natural beauty of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 3

Day 3: Big Tree Camp (2780m) to Shira 2 Camp (3900m)

3,900m16 km8–10 hours

Today the trail leaves the rainforest and enters the beautiful moorland zone. You will cross the stunning Shira Plateau while enjoying breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro’s peaks and surrounding landscapes. This is one of the longest trekking days on the route, but the incredible scenery makes the journey truly rewarding. Dinner and overnight at Shira 2 Camp.

Day 4

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3900m) to Barranco Camp (3960m)

3,960m10 km6–8 hours

Today is an important acclimatization day as you hike toward Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp following the “climb high, sleep low” principle. Dinner and overnight at Barranco Camp.

Day 5

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3960m) to Karanga Camp (3963m)

3,963m5 km4–5 hours

After breakfast, you begin by climbing the famous Barranco Wall. Although steep in appearance, this section is non-technical and manageable with the support of your guides. This shorter hiking day helps improve acclimatization and allows your body additional time to adjust before the summit ascent. Dinner and overnight at Karanga Camp.

Day 6

Day 6: Karanga Camp (3963m) to Barafu Camp (4640m)

4,640m4 km3–4 hours

Today you continue steadily toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before your summit attempt. The landscape becomes rocky and alpine with colder temperatures and thinner air. After arriving at camp, you will rest, hydrate, and attend a detailed summit briefing before preparing for the midnight summit climb. Dinner and overnight at Barafu Camp.

Day 7

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4640m) to UHURU PEAK (5895m) – Down to Millennium Camp (3790m)

5,895m17 km10–14 hours

Around midnight, you begin your summit attempt under the stars. The climb is physically demanding, but reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, is an unforgettable achievement. At sunrise, you will enjoy breathtaking glacier views and celebrate your successful summit before beginning your descent. After descending to Barafu Camp for a short rest, you continue down to Millennium Camp for overnight stay. This is the most challenging but also the most rewarding day of the entire climb. Dinner and overnight at Millennium Camp.

Day 8

Day 8: Trek Millennium Camp (3790m) to Mweka Gate (1630m)

1,630m12 km4–5 hours

After breakfast, you descend through the beautiful rainforest toward Mweka Gate where you will receive your summit certificate as recognition of your successful climb. You will then be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi for a hot shower, relaxation, and celebration. We also welcome you to spare an hour of your day to plant a tree as part of our environmental conservation efforts in the Kilimanjaro region. Safari and Zanzibar add-ons are available if you wish to continue exploring Tanzania.

Day 9

Day 9: Depart Kilimanjaro

After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward journey home. For travelers wishing to continue exploring Tanzania, this is also the perfect opportunity to extend your adventure with a safari to Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park, or the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar.
