Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park – The Elephant Kingdom

After breakfast in Arusha or Moshi, your safari begins with a drive to Tarangire National Park. The journey passes through Maasai villages and open savannah landscapes, giving you a first taste of rural Tanzania. Once you enter Tarangire, the scenery immediately changes. Towering baobab trees dominate the landscape, and large herds of elephants move slowly across the plains. This park is especially famous for its elephant families, often seen walking together along the Tarangire River. During your full-day game drive, you may also encounter lions resting in the shade, giraffes feeding on acacia trees, zebras moving in groups, and buffaloes grazing near water sources. The park is also rich in birdlife, making it very colorful and lively. In the late afternoon, you will drive to a public campsite near the park where your safari cook will prepare dinner. You will enjoy your first night in the wild, surrounded by natural sounds of Africa.

Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park – Journey to the Endless Plains

After breakfast at the campsite, you begin a scenic drive toward Serengeti National Park. This is one of the most beautiful road journeys in Tanzania, passing through the Ngorongoro highlands, Maasai lands, and vast open plains. As you enter Serengeti, the landscape opens into endless golden grasslands stretching as far as the eye can see. Wildlife becomes more abundant, and game viewing starts immediately. You will enjoy an afternoon game drive where you may see lions, cheetahs, elephants, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeests depending on the season. Serengeti is also home to the Great Migration, one of the most powerful wildlife events in the world. In the evening, you arrive at a public campsite inside Serengeti National Park. Dinner is served at camp while you enjoy the unforgettable experience of sleeping in the middle of the African wilderness.

3

Day 3: Full Day Serengeti Safari – The Heart of Wildlife

Today is a full immersion into Serengeti National Park. After an early breakfast, you head out for a full-day game drive across different regions of the park depending on wildlife movement. This is the best chance to witness predators in action. Lions may be seen hunting or resting after a kill, cheetahs may be scanning the plains for prey, and large herds of wildebeests and zebras may be moving across the savannah in search of fresh grass. Your guide will take you to the best wildlife areas, ensuring you experience the most active and exciting parts of the park. Serengeti offers some of the best photography opportunities in Africa, especially during sunrise and sunset. You will enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park before continuing your afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight will be at the same campsite in Serengeti.

Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater – Big Five Experience

After an early breakfast, you enjoy a short morning game drive in Serengeti as you exit the park and head toward Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive is scenic, passing through highlands and Maasai grazing lands before reaching the crater rim. From the viewpoint, you will see the breathtaking view of Ngorongoro Crater, one of the natural wonders of Africa. You will then descend into the crater for a half-day safari. Inside the crater, wildlife is concentrated in a small area, making it one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five in a single game drive. You may see lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, hyenas, zebras, flamingos, and the rare black rhino. The scenery inside the crater is stunning, with green plains, lakes, and wildlife all around you. After a picnic lunch, you ascend from the crater and drive to Mto wa Mbu for dinner and overnight camping.

5

Day 5: Karatu to Arusha – Cultural Views & Farewell Safari

After breakfast, you begin your journey back to Arusha. On the way, you pass through beautiful farmland, coffee plantations, and Maasai villages, giving you a final taste of Tanzanian countryside life. You arrive in Arusha in the afternoon, marking the end of your unforgettable budget camping safari experience. Although the safari ends, the memories of wildlife encounters, sleeping in the wild, and African landscapes will stay with you forever.

Important Notes

This is a budget camping safari in Tanzania, meaning you will stay in basic public campsites close to nature. Facilities are simple but safe, clean, and provide a true wilderness experience. Expect to sleep in tents surrounded by natural sounds of wildlife, especially in Serengeti where animals may be heard at night.

Safari routes and schedules may change depending on park regulations, weather conditions, and wildlife movement. Early booking is highly recommended, especially during peak season from June to October. Travelers are advised to follow guide instructions at all times for safety and best experience.

Packing Notes

Pack light, comfortable safari clothing in neutral colors such as khaki, beige, and green. Warm clothes are important for cold nights and early mornings, especially in Serengeti and Ngorongoro highlands.

Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, and comfortable walking shoes. A good camera or smartphone with extra storage is highly recommended for wildlife photography. Soft duffel bags are preferred instead of hard suitcases due to limited space in safari vehicles. Personal medications and basic toiletries should also be included for your comfort during the trip.
